The Second Coming
You know what. Think I'm gonna resurrect this thing. Got a new job with a 1hr train commute so should have some time to put some stuff up. Watch this space.

Janathon Update - at last
Well... what a lazy sod. Not on the activity front but on the blogging. My previous levels of activity have been maintained but getting around to blogging about it within 24hrs has been hard work. Coupled with the fact that I suffer from professorial absent mindedness, the blog hasn't been happening.
Probably easier to tell you the days I've missed rather than list everything I've done. Missed 3 days in total since my last check in. 1 was a busy family day with a visit to Petersfield (or Pizzafield if you are one of our kids, due to the frequency of visits to that particular Pizza Express!) for a panto showing (and pizza, of course). Good fun it was too. And this weekend was a wash out due to decorating Jack's bedroom. That was quite tiring and I was tempted to log it but I don't think it would pass really.
Activities that are noteworthy. Well done to RunningBeeArr on a PB in the Stubbington10k. Good prep for the Pompey Half Marathon that is looming imminently. Jack did well in the junior fun run on the same day. He's a good little runner. When he gets older and learns to control his effort over distance, I reckon he'll be a force to reckon with.
I did something completely new to me this week. A track bike session at Calshot Activity Centre. All in preparation for the hour challenge I'm doing later this year for charity (details will follow). Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I've spent hours in the saddle of a road bike before, feeling the pain of going over some of the legendary climbs of the Alps and Pyrenees, but track riding has never really interested me. I'm more of a slow twitch man in my advancing years. Track is a different kind of effort altogether. This challenge is going to be hard work and fun at the same time I reckon.
Back on the Janathon track, I've just been for a hilly lunchtime 4.45k run. Those that have been following me will know I don't really run a great deal. Not because I don't like it. I do. But my joints aren't great and in particular, my ankle has been quite sore for a while. I've done a few 3km runs to test it out and it's been ok recently, if not a little achy afterwards. So today I pushed it a bit further and so far, so good (touch wood). I'm seeing a physio later this week about my elbow tendinitis so if it flares up, I'll ask for some advice. But if I can build on that run, I'll be happy. For now at least.

Janathon 13
Pretty good day activity wise. Against all odds, I cycled my commute. A hilly 6 miles each way. That was followed by 90mins of jujitsu this evening.
Now enjoying a glass of wine and pork pie :)

Janathon 12
6 mile each way hilly commute on the bike today. Also the first run out of my new Creek2Peak commuter pannier that I got with some xmas monies. Looks like a regular laptop bag but clips onto the pannier rack. Did a marvellous job. Pleased with it. Need to try it out on a regular train trip to a client though. Should be ok but need to know how to organise the pockets for laptop, papers and gadgets.
Dropping the kids off at school tomorrow so I'll have to be organised to ride again. Would like to but I think we all know what the result's going to be. At least I have jujitsu in the evening.
I see some Janathoners are posting jokes with their reports. Well... here's one I read the other day on a friend's Facebook profile:
Q: What cheese would you use to disguise a horse?
A: Mascarpone!
I'll get my coat.

Janathon 11
Good 40mins swimming today. Don't know how far. There were no lanes set up, it was pretty busy and most people were there to either float and chat or attempt to propel themselves without getting their hair wet. So tracking it was difficult as keeping my line was like traversing Oxford St. in the January sales. Wasn't what I wanted but still enjoyed putting the effort in. It's not all about the numbers after all.
Nice evening in the pub for RunningBeeArr's birthday. Met up with another family there who we're friendly with. It was Julie's birthday today too. She's also just started running. Let's see if we can get her interested in Janathon next year (or Juneathon this year).

As suspected, other stuff to do meant it was run around the block again. Not a bad thing. Ankle held out ok again. Bit of a twinge but nothing bad. Would like to up the mileage but will approach with caution.
Day off tomorrow. Work that is, not janathon. Would like to get a swim in at least. Will need to do something as it's RunningBeeArr's birthday and we're having tea at the local pub. Looking forward to it. So are the kids. They love a pub tea. Don't we all?

Janathon 9
Jujitsu last night. Good hard warm up by Ady. Really felt all those press ups. Then cracked on with a good lot of syllabus and a bit of groundwork. Good session and the elbow held out ok.
Not sure what I'm going to do today. Might be another run around the block this evening. Or commute to work by bike if I can get the kids off to school and the house organised for the cleaner in good time. Doubtful!
